School Tours with the Principal are an excellent way to view our extensive facilities and to understand how unique Macedon Primary is, and can be organized easily by contacting the school office.

Our transition program for the following year’s Foundation students starts in Term 2 (May) with an open morning including and guided tour with 2 grade 6 leaders and an information session both providing information about our unique school, core curriculum and extra-curricular educational programs.  During Term 4, a number of structured transition visits take place in the form of orientation sessions within a classroom setting. Whilst the children are engaged in the classroom and becoming familiar with our school, we provide further parent information in the form of a presentation to assist with the transition process. Throughout the transition period, parents who have particular questions, or who need further information, are welcome to call the school and talk to the Principal. Additional and informal visits can be facilitated when required, to ensure there is a smooth transition for every child.

Orientation sessions are planned and conducted within the Foundation classrooms. The activities involve the children utilising a range of skills to create a memento of their time at school. During the final orientation session your child will meet their Grade 6 buddy and create a memento together, thus ensuring on their very first day of school they will have a familiar, caring face and a special person to look out for. This provides a welcoming experience and a connection from the very beginning of school.

Once the children commence school, the Foundation students have a rest day each Wednesday during the month of February. During these Wednesdays the Foundation teachers conduct the DET School Entry Assessments with each child, via a pre-organised schedule.

From other schools

For children moving schools, the school has a flexible transition approach where we work with the parents to tailor a program that suits the child/ren and the family, especially those moving into the area from afar. When practical, children can spend a morning or two in their future classrooms to start building relationships with the teacher and their new peers, and to get a general feel for how the school works.

All new students are matched with some grade buddies to look after them in their initial weeks, with close monitoring from the grade teacher to ensure genuine friendships are being established within their year level. A face to face or phone meeting between the teacher and parents/carers is scheduled within the first 2 weeks of starting to share information that builds that vital school-home partnership.

Communication with the previous school administration occurs to organise the required transfer documentation and contact is made with previous teachers if the need arises after consultation with parents.
