Bike Education will be taught to students in Year 5 and 6 this term as part of the Outdoor Education program. Each child will require a bicycle and helmet in serviceable condition. The school will supply fluorescent vests. On-road riding is an essential part of the course and will be done in the local streets when children have successfully completed the riding skills sessions of the course within the school grounds in the early part of the program. The program will build towards our grade 5/6 bike ride to Hanging Rock on Friday 26th of November.
It is planned to carry out the 3-session program with scheduled times and dates as follows:
*Session 1: Tuesday 16th November 2.00 -3.30pm (at school)
*Session 2: Tuesday 23rd November 2.00 – 3.30pm (at school and on the local roads.) Parent assistance required
*Session 3: Friday 26th November, (Year 5/6 ride to Hanging Rock) *All day. Parent assistance required
If any sessions need to be rescheduled or cancelled for reasons such as poor weather, we will send notification via the MPS Skoolbag App or SMS for those without smartphones and also on the MPS Facebook page.
To enable us to maximise our time during the first session, we are sending home the Bike Inspection sheet for parents to use as a checklist for their child’s bike. Please fill in all details in the student and parents sections and the Bike Ed inspectors will complete the last section before the first session begins.
Please complete the form to indicate your approval for your child to participate in this important extra-curricular program and return the form to the school by Monday 15th of November. There is no cost for this program.
If any parents can assist with the program please indicate on the note below or contact the office. Additional parent supervision when we head onto the local roads is preferred to ensure the safety of the students.
Please note, volunteers performing work in schools are required to be fully vaccinated by 29 November (unless a medical exemption applies) to attend on site.
Parents that wish to volunteer on excursions or school activities must supply vaccination information to the school indicating their vaccination status. This can be in the form of the following;
- a letter from a medical practitioner confirming the person’s vaccination status or confirming a person is medically exempt.
- A certificate of immunisation
- An immunisation history statement obtained from the Australian Immunisation Register.
The school will maintain a vaccination register for visitors and volunteers.
